Chief 131 spied this incredibly beautiful 9/11 Tribute motorcycle at Gettysburg Bike Week. Unfortunately, no info was obtained, the owner was not with the bike, so we can't give credit to him for this stunning bike. Very nice to see though, an incredible piece of art. Be sure to take note of the license plate number....

The Fire Company received a request to assist at a Special Forces reunion being held in the Township. We provided fire police for parking for the large crowd in attendance, as well as standby for their flight operations. The military old timers watched as the new breed brought in the latest in military technology,  including the HALO (high-altitude-low-opening) parachute team. A Blackhawk helicopter and a fully armed CH47 Chinook were on hand. All the latest weapons and gadgetry were also on display, such as scuba gear, remote cameras, and modern battlefield medical kits (what is a "minor amputation" anyway?). The most pleasurable part of the day by far was the opportunity to speak to multiple generations who have fought for our freedom. They are an incredibly impressive group of individuals and we are thankful for the time we had with them. OK, who gave Carol an automatic weapon?

Birthday Party! A good time was had by firemen and partygoers alike at this party for Jackson, who was turning 5. I don't know about rock star status, but apparently the kids were impressed with our arrival! The rain held off just long enough, and the kids learned a little about fire prevention, got to try on the gear, check out a flowing hoseline and even got to see the big gun on the engine. Even Jackson's brother got in on the action, and mom looks ready for any challenge in turnout gear. Jackson, see you in 7 years for youth auxiliary membership.

If you have a public function, birthday party, or any event that you would like the fire company to appear at, please e-mail chief131@silverspringfire.org for more info.

Santa Hits the streets! We had fantastic support this year for our Santa event from the bingo players, who produced a staggering 18 cases of food! Also our community friendly businesses, Wal-Mart, Hershey Foods, Giant Foods, Target, Wegman's, Lone Star, Chili's, ABC West Bowling and more for supporting this event.

Santa visits the firehouse! I have no idea who is covered in snow, or why, but I am sure it's a great story.

The fire company helps the MECHANICSBURG SPORTSMAN'S ASSOCIATION create habitat for wildlife. The Sportsman's Association requested the services of the fire department to burn brush they had cleared to create open habitat on their grounds at the foot of the mountain in Silver Spring Township. A long hard day, but the end result was well worth it, and we got some firewood to boot! Murphy's Law: Anything that you want to burn will resist burning well beyond the laws of physics. We also learned that Les doesn't care for tractor riding much. Tough day, tough burn, good work guys.

2007 Cumberland County Fireman's Convention. A time to come forth and be judged by your peers, and enjoy the camaraderie of the fire service. No one does that better than Citizens in Mount Holly Springs. Check out our good friends at http://citizensfire36.org/. Thanks for a good time guys, see you on the next big mountain fire. A surprising third place for our Rescue (Congratulations Alec!), second place for the Tanker, good food and spirits and a little water play make for another awesome convention. Deputy Chief Dan says, what happens in Holly, stays in Holly.......

October 2007- The Fire Company has a super day training at the Franklin County Training Center, training in a Structural  Burn Session. Hats off to some great instructors, and every one of our firefighters who did an outstanding job that day. As the instructors had warned us, temperatures in the building were very hot, reaching 1500 degrees in areas. Everyone demonstrated safe effective skills and boosted their confidence. More pictures coming. Hoss's says thanks, but shower next time before coming.

October 2007- A certain firefighter and his certain firefighter roommate apparently locked their keys (yes, both of them) in their apartment. Retreating to the station, they found the Chief, who was kind enough to bring out the engine and assist them in throwing a ladder to the second floor window to make entry. Probably the most amazing part of the story is that they threw a ladder off of a firetruck, onto a busy apartment complex window, and not one single neighbor came out to investigate at 2330hrs. Here ya go guys, "here's your sign".
