On the afternoon of September 1, firefighters from Silver Spring Community Fire Company (Co. 31) and New Kingstown Fire Company (Co. 33) responded to a controlled burn that had unexpectedly grown beyond its intended boundaries.

Crews arrived and quickly took action to prevent further spread. Thanks to their swift response and coordinated teamwork, the situation was brought under control within approximately an hour. No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged during the incident.

“Even with the best planning, controlled burns can become unpredictable, especially in dry or windy conditions,” said a department spokesperson. “This incident is a good reminder of the importance of notifying your local fire department before conducting any outdoor burning.”

Residents are reminded to always monitor outdoor fires closely and ensure they are fully extinguished before leaving them unattended. It's also critical to follow all local burn ordinances and obtain necessary permits where required.

Fire Prevention Tip: Always keep a water source nearby when conducting any type of open burning, and never burn on windy days.
