Silver Spring Community Fire Company

Squad 31 – Technical Rescue & Fire Suppression Unit

Squad 31 serves as the primary apparatus for vehicle and technical rescue incidents. This multipurpose vehicle combines the capabilities of a structural firefighting pumper and a rescue truck. Designed with a focus on vehicle accidents and vehicle fires, Squad 31 carries a full complement of battery powered rescue tools, stabilization equipment, and Class B foam for flammable liquid fires. It also supports fireground operations and can serve as a secondary engine.

Specifications:

  • Chassis: 2008 Sutphen Pumper

  • Pump: 1500 GPM, 1000-gallon poly tank, 10-gallon Class A foam, 20-gallon Class B foam (direct injection)

  • Hose Load:

    • (2) 200’ 1¾” crosslays

    • (2) 200’ 2½” crosslays

    • (1) 300’ 1¾” rearlay

    • Rear blitzfire line

    • 400’ of 3” supply

    • 1200’ of 5” supply

  • Seating: 6 firefighters with SCBAs

Engine 31 – Tanker/Pumper for Rural Operations

Engine 31 operates in a dual-role capacity as a tanker and pumper, primarily tasked with shuttling water to rural fire scenes. As a hybrid apparatus, Engine 31 is fully capable of structural firefighting when needed. During rural incidents, it plays a critical role in tanker shuttle operations that require precise coordination between fill and dump sites.

Specifications:

  • Chassis: 2018 E-One Custom Tanker Pumper

  • Pump: 2000 GPM, 2500-gallon poly tank, 30-gallon Class A foam with CAFS

  • Hose Load:

    • (3) 200’ 1¾” crosslays

    • (1) 200’ 2½” crosslay

    • (1) 150’ 1¾” front bumper line

    • (1) 300’ 1¾” rearlay

    • Rear blitzfire line

    • 400’ of 3” supply

    • 1500’ of 5” supply

  • Seating: 6 firefighters with SCBAs

  • Additional Equipment:

    • Battery-operated AMKUS spreaders and cutters

    • Paratech struts and cribbing

 

Traffic 31 – Fire Police & Scene Safety

Traffic 31 supports Fire Police operations by managing traffic control and scene security. This unit is critical for protecting personnel operating on or near roadways and ensuring safe access to emergency scenes.

Specifications:

  • Chassis: 2000 Ford F-450 with Ambulance Package

  • Seating: 2 Fire Police Officers

  • Equipment: Message board for traffic control

Utility 31 – Support & Logistics Vehicle

Utility 31 functions as a flexible support vehicle used for errands, equipment transport, and supplemental response when other apparatus are committed. Its primary purpose is logistical support rather than emergency response.

Specifications:

  • Chassis: 2015 Custom Chevrolet with Emergency Lighting Package

  • Seating: 4 firefighters
