Membership Information

Thank you for your interest in joining the Silver Spring Community Fire Company. We are proud to welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are passionate about serving their community. Whether you're new to the fire service or an experienced responder, there's a place for you in our department.

Live-In Program

Are you passionate about helping others?
Do you want to be part of something bigger than yourself?
Do you enjoy giving back to your community?

If so, the Silver Spring Community Fire Company’s Live-In Program may be the perfect opportunity for you.

Program Benefits:

• Free housing and utilities

• Private dormitory rooms

• Free training opportunities, including EMT-B certification (if you already hold Firefighter I)

• Access to a private gym

• Modern, fully equipped fire station

• State-of-the-art apparatus, gear, and equipment

• Modern dayroom, kitchen, and laundry facilities

• Weekly in-house training sessions

• Only 60 hours of required station time per week, including sleep hours

Minimum Requirements:

• Completion of Essentials of Firefighting Module D (Interior Firefighting)

• Hazardous Materials Operations level certification

• Vehicle Rescue Operations certification

• First Aid, CPR, and AED (EMT-B preferred)

All required certifications must be completed within 18 months of your move-in date, except for EMT-B, which is preferred but not required for initial entry.

If you do not yet meet all minimum qualifications, you are welcome to join the department as a member and work toward fulfilling the requirements necessary to become a live-in.
